Picture this: a WhatsApp voice message from your mother, panicked, asking for money right away. You'd recognize her voice anywhere -- except it isn't her. It's a scam. AI-powered fraud like this, using cloned voices and deepfake images, is surging across Brazil. Recent data shows Brazilian families lose an average of nearly R$3,000 per attack.
Against this backdrop, CloudWalk, the financial technology company behind InfinitePay and Pierre in Brazil and JIM.com in the United States, is expanding the Silver Guardian Movement, an initiative dedicated to protecting the financial well-being of people over 60. Part of Silverguard's SOS Golpe platform, the project is rolling out new educational content for Brazilians aged 60 and older -- a group that suffers losses up to five times higher in Pix-related scams than young adults aged 18 to 24.
Designed to deliver practical, accessible guidance on security and prevention -- and to offer free support that helps victims over 60 report fraud faster -- the Silver Guardian Movement meets its audience where they already are: on WhatsApp and Instagram. The strategy includes monthly bulletins, prevention alerts, and educational campaigns, all written in plain, direct language so that information reaches people before scammers do.
"Our mission with the Silver Guardian Movement is to get ahead of scams through information. Financial protection is also about education. When someone understands how a scam works, they go from being an easy target to being the first line of defense," says Marcia Netto, CEO of Silverguard and head of SOS Golpe.
The new video series, featuring influencer Cecília Campos, tackles real-life scenarios and offers hands-on tips for staying safe. Key recommendations include verifying money requests through a separate channel, establishing code words or verification questions within the family, and treating any message that creates a sense of urgency with skepticism.
Beyond education, the initiative underscores the role of technology in fraud prevention. CloudWalk uses artificial intelligence to monitor financial transactions in real time, flagging suspicious behavior and blocking operations before losses occur.
"Scams are evolving at the same pace as technology, and they often exploit moments of emotional vulnerability. Our job is to use AI to detect risk signals in real time and stop fraud before the money ever leaves the account," says Aline Lima, Compliance Director at CloudWalk.
By combining technology with accessible information, the Silver Guardian Movement takes a preventive approach -- spreading knowledge before scams strike. The content is now available on CloudWalk's and SOS Golpe's official social media channels.
